More Jobs

More Jobs

Simply put, economic development is attracting people to live and work in your area. Each time a new family moves into Bedford County or a graduate decides to live and work in his hometown rather than move, we experience economic growth. When they buy groceries at the corner grocery store, get their car fixed at the local garage, or order pizza delivered to their home, they are a cog in the wheel of economic growth. Evidence can be seen all around us: those counties where the population is growing are experiencing economic growth.

With roughly 80,000 residents, Bedford County population exceeds all of our regional county peers. Additionally, the median family income and home values in our County compare favorably.

Jobs follow people.  Businesses look for two things when choosing an area: low taxes and qualified workers.  Bedford County’s real estate tax rate of 0.50 is well below (0.13) the median of our regional peers. And with good schools and neighboring universities and colleges, our workers are qualified.

Low Taxes

Low Taxes

As your Supervisor, I voted to decrease your tax rate from 0.52 to 0.50, one of the lowest tax rates in the Commonwealth. “Bedford County’s real estate tax rate is 13 cents below the media average of its Regional Peers.” Davenport Public Finance (February, 2021)

School Choice

School Choice

Formerly a private school teacher and homeschool mom, I am a strong advocate for school choice. Parents, not bureaucrats, should be making decisions about their children’s education.

Parents best know the unique talents and needs of their children. When parents are empowered with educational options, children succeed.

Religious Liberty

Religious Liberty

Formerly with Liberty Counsel, I know that religious liberty is threatened on every level of government, including the local level. I worked with Kim Davis, a Christian city clerk, who was jailed for refusing to allow her name on marriage licenses after the Supreme Court overturned Kentucky's definition of marriage.  A church called Liberty Counsel when they were told they could not put up a cross on their own property because it violated the sign ordinance.  I have fought for Christmas Carols in public school and nativity scenes on public property.  As your Supervisor, I will never quit defending your "free exercise" of religion.
